The roller coaster ride of this week--including two emergency room visits--has left me a bit drained. Yesterday, while waiting for news of my dog's emergency surgery, I found myself at Astoria's Pier 39, staring at the blustery Columbia River from Coffee Girl (a coffee shop). There was a cannery workers reunion at this newly-renovated former cannery, and the shop was bustling with old friends catching up. I calmed down with a cup of cappuccino and the ever-changing scenery.
