Debris Happens

Winter's high surfs, high winds and heavy rains take their toll. Someone recently told me that six inches of water can knock a person off balance, and two inches of water can float a tree/log. This is obvious looking at Tolovana Wayside this morning. Trees (which come down the rivers into the ocean) end up on beaches, pounding the banks and loosening boulders in the retaining walls. Water does the rest: carrying logs and boulders and branches over the banks (and concrete access ramps) and whittling away at the sand and earth holding the walls in place.
