Seagulls at the Turnaround

Wednesday, Mar 07, 07

Yesterday, before the latest round of rain moved in, people and birds were enjoying  what was left of a bonus sunny day.  For some reason I was drawn to seagulls for both websites, and, to anyone who knows me  well, this is highly unusual.  But they seemed to be everywhere:  hanging out on the beach, hovering overhead, ducking into my line of sight and even posing.

Thankfully, no movie scenes played out. However, since so many of their beady little eyes followed me around, and I couldn't seem to keep them out of my pictures, I decided to look "seagulls" up in a book of animal totems.  They have a surprisingly (to me) good reputation with "an intricate code of behavior" that helps them function on the sea and on land and in the air, and they are "ecological" and clean the beaches.

Accordingly, so the book says, their prevalence may have been a friendly sign or warning for me to learn about working outside of my "normal" areas, to learn "how to read people more effectively" and understand body language and communication subtleties (oddly, something with which I've been wrestling lately,) and/or "cleaning up the shore areas" of my own life where the physical and emotional meet (again, applicable.)  Who knew that seagulls--of which I'm terrified and even revolted by--could also make me pause to contemplate and focus on my own life and look to for  inspiration?  Another lesson learned.
