CB Library Harvest Festival

Friday, October 19th, 2007

With the early onset of winter, we nearly missed the harvest.  The legion of Cannon Beach Library volunteers, however, are on the ball.  Today and tomorrow from 10 am to 4 pm they will be hosting the annual Harvest Festival, a huge fundraiser for them.  Even half an hour into the event, the Visitor Center community room was packed--and not just with baked goods, toys, games, collectibles, crafts, and holiday gifts, but with people carrying out armloads of goodies and raffle tickets (yours truly included.)  I found a great old photo, an adorable St. Nick and, yes, old, wooden shoe stretchers.  Stop in, and support the Library if you're out and about Saturday.  Did I mention the baked goods table?...

Good morning, Glynis! We have had a series of moonlight mornings as October comes to a close. I keep waking up at 5 am with my bedroom flooded with moonlight. It feels magical!

As one of the "Legion of Volunteers" here in Cannon Beach, I appreciate the lovely photos and good words about the HarvestFest. It was a great success, although we had some of the interesting weather for which the Coast is famous during the event. My husband Paul and I had adventures bringing decorative straw bales to the Chamber Hall from Papa Jack's in Warrrenton. Paul piloted our 17-year-old Toyota pickup down 101 during a wind and rain storm. We would go "whee!" to hide our terror as the wind would blow the truck around and the ancient wipers groaned against the torrents of water lashing the windshield. Even two huge bales and 10 hefty pumpkins back in the truckbed provided no real ballast against a good autumn coastal storm.
Still, HarvestFest was fun and busy. The Library Club, eighty years young and still going strong, deeply appreciates the support of our energetic community. I am honored to be a member of this dynamic, non-profit library. It is a real treasure for all of us.

Your photos from August of the tidepools at Silver Point are the best photos of the sealife here that I have seen. You are to be commended for your good eye and skill with lenses and light.
    Thank you for the blog!
